I've been lurking for months but this is my first post in god knows how long... What's to become of our beloved 3dnow.net... I remember what first drove me here. I was looking for information on 3dnow. I had no idea what it was or what it did. Hell at the time I didn't even know shit about computers. Now I'm an I.T. Admin and I really miss the Action Quake 2 days (that's what got me into PC gaming).

I got my first windows based computer when Win98 came out. I barely knew anything about computers other than how to point and click. My first computer was some unknown brand with a Cyrix piece of shit in it. I didn't know that it wasn't good enough for 3d games. That's when I first learned about FPU's and things like that. Then I got me a K62 with 3Dnow because I couldn't afford a pentium. The guy at the store assured me that the 3dnow would make all my games run fantastic. That's when I found out that assholes selling computers rarely know shit about them. I couldn't take this one back so I decided to try and make it work.

That's when the 3dnow patch came out for quake 2. I fucking exploaded. I was getting better frames then some of my friends who had top of the line pentium machines. I also got my first taste of ACCELERATED graphics with my Voodoo 2. WOOOOOOOOO!!!! I couldn't believe it man. After that it was all good. I was playing games that destroyed console graphics. I was blown away and became a PC gamer exclusively, for a short time. Me and my friends eventually formed a big PC gaming circle. It lasted for a good ten years before we all went on with our lives... but that was my Electric Woodstock man... what about yours?

I think everyone is off on Facebook or Twitter or Myspace now. It's almost like Forums are dying man. I know this one is. At least I have fond memories of yummy gummy trolling and flame wars... and actually getting answers from folks before Google even existed. LOL.

I guess this board is dying because people are no longer interested in 3dnow these days.

We ex k6-2 owners, back then, were all desperately looking for 3dnow supports for games and the video card drivers to crank up some fps, so visiting this board to
check out news on 3dnow support kinda became our daily things.

Well, most of us are now about 11 years older than when we first joined this board.
Some of us, like myself, may no longer play games as much as we did, probably
too busy taking care of other things in our lives. I do miss those days playing on PK's
fragging friday night server. Also, amd cpu's these days have very powerful fpu's and
do not really need our prayers to get 3dnow support for our favorite games.

I still kinda feel attached to this board, so I pay a visit from time to time, and
enjoy seeing how those people I've known for 11 years are doing.

Sad how AMD are now considered second fiddle to Intel once more though.

Just upgraded my wife's system - Phenom II X925, very nice and the price/performance is amazing.

AMD/ATi certainly have the edge in graphics though - Nvidia are months away from having any DX11 parts.

I agree price performance wise it is still AMD , speed wise well we all know that Intel will keep ahead for at least another year.

I lurk here probably about two to three times a week. I started travelling the world so I wasnt as interested in gaming like I used to be. Plus I got tired of the neocons trying to convince me that Bush was right about WMD's in Iraq. It's better to see the world instead of watching it on TV.

Neocons, wouldnt call them that. In hindsight all of it was a lie even the Colin Powell UN presentation.

No wonder he bailed , people still think think it was over another issue.

I think my passion for hardware died when AMD's Athlon genuinely king and they were no longer the underdog.

It kind of revived a little bit during the NVidia vs. ATI wars, but let's face it: For anything but high-end servers or pro-level gaming, any of the major brands are perfectly serviceable.

As an aside, I'm working for a software company that has been very pro-AMD for a number of years. Basically, they only certify for their software either Solaris boxes or AMD-based (64-bit) Linux boxes. Intel made a huge mistake all those years ago with their Itanium, and I guess they're still paying for it :D
