After a long absence I decided to fire up SETI yesterday and see where Team 3DNow! stood. I was going to throw a bunch of stats at you in an effort to rally the troops but I fucking hate stats. Here's what you need to know. Our entire team, once comprised of over 400 registered members now sits at 3 active members (5 now that PK and I have decided to start contributing again). We can do better then this! Anyone want to help?

Was wondering what happened to you guys the spontainious thrill of installing Seti@home (now folding@home). Was allways something that was a major pain for people to get them to donate cputime :) .

i can see if i can donate some time. I have a GTX 260 videocard that should be rather fast for it :) .

Can you guys provide some links again to the stuff and to the team i forgot which and where we were ;)

Here is the link for the 3DNow! SETI page. To join the team just search for the team when you register or set up BOINC. For those that don't know the SETI@Home project has been folded into the BOINC, the Berkley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing project. To contribute to our SETI team you need to install BOINC and then select SETI@home as the or one of the projects you wish to contribute CPU time to.

Not to be picky Pieter but Folding@Home is only related to Seti@home in so much that they are both distributed computing projects. Folding@home has something to do with proteins while SETI is the search for little green men. I could be wrong on this but I don't believe that Folding@home is a BOINC project either. That said "Folding" is a kick ass project and Kudos to all who contribute.

You should be able to just download BOINC and then select SETI@Home as a service you want to run. Should be fairly straight forward. What part are you having difficulty with, maybe we can help clarify.

I have BOINC setup just fine; but I expected the folding@home-gpu client to be similarly easy to setup.

Once you setup BOINC just select SETI@Home from the project menu.

It isn't called Folding@Home.

Just to clarify. SETI@Home is not Folding@Home.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ Is the link you should be following. Once you install the BOINC client if you were not able to select SETI@Home you can easily add it. Here is where you want to go.

With the BOINC Manager open click on "Tools" then "Attach to project..."

After that you are given this window.

Click "Next"

After that you are given the "Choose a project" window.

Locate "SETI@home", click on it once so it turns blue. Then click "Next". The program will then attach you to that project. If you have not yet done so join "Team 3DNow!" at this point.

Hope that clarifies it a bit.

Thanks, it's a lot more convoluted since the old days with a dedicated client. So does anyone know if BOINC uses the GPU at all? or can?
