Considering today's cinematic technologies (like CGI), what movies from the past do you feel deserve a shot to be made even better than the original?

Here's mine:

-TRON (coincidentally the FIRST movie to employ CGI technology)

-DIRTY MARY, CRAZY LARRY (one of the greatest car chase movies on film, today's over-the-top stunts could revive this cult classic, just like what was done with Gone in 60 Seconds)

-DR STRANGELOVE: OR HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB (nothing more needs to be said about this classic)

How about? I know I'm leaving out some, but they're come to mind I'm sure.

None. I'm sick of remakes.

Ok... I lied. A new, improved, kick-ass Robocop could win me over.

MAD MAX was another one I would consider.

Same with DEATH RACE 2000, except that this movie was so politically incorrect that it wouldn't even get through a rewrite of the script. Afterall, the plot of the movie is about a road rally involving running over innocent people for points. The younger the victim is, the more points the driver receives. Sounds like a winner to me.

The movie Tron is the movie that came to my mind before I read your list... it was a pretty neat movie.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN -- I would LOVE to see a vivid Frank Miller type remake (like Sin City and the soon-to-be-released 300)

HEAVY METAL -- This animated cult classic needs to be remade with the same high-quality hand-drawn animation that made the original so good, only this time the animations will be better, and with an updated soundtrack using venerated rock classics

Some of these may seem obscure or lame... maybe even unknown but these are just a few....

The Legend of Hell House (not so much graphically but just with updated techniques and film quailty)

Krull - I always wanted to like this movie more than I did, and I think if it had better actors and updated special effects it could be a winner.

The Black Hole - I used to love this movie as a kid

Bed Knobs and Broomsticks - In this Harry Potter world I think this movie would play well.

Light Years - An odd feature length relatively adult (not in a porno sense) cartoon.

Space Pirates - The original was funny, but the effects were so cheesy.

I'll think of more later...

You mean Ice Pirates, right?

I'd pay to see a remake of The Black Hole.

How about a remake of Highlander?

I just about disagree on every movie mentioned, as they are perfect just the way they are. Perhaps some sequels to some of them, but not remakes. Especially for Mad Max and Conan the Barbarian.

Now that I said all that, I can't really think of any specific movies to remake. For that, I suggest digging into the vaults and remaking Classic Movies, especially Science Fiction. Maybe "The Things to Come"(IIRC) with the whole "Wings Across the World", "Gas of Peace", and the inevitable clash between the ideologies of Technologists and Luddites. Change some of the terms/names so they don't sound too corny, but keep the story basically intact.

Nah, the first move rocked. They could remake Highlander 2 so that it didn't suck as much as a black hole!

Btw.... About my low post count, I had to re-register since I've forgotten my old login info... I'm The OzzyFreak by the way if anyone remembers me... I used to post a lot at the older 3dnow.net wwwboard during the K6-2 days :D

It's nice to see that this community is still alive... I still recognise most of the members here (Even you wayne foley, though you've changed your nick ;) ).

Definitely in need of a remake. The stop-motion technology of its day sucked. I've seen episodes of Gumby that looked better. :)

The only two true remakes I can think of are Where Eagles Dare and Forbidden Planet. I would love to see Stephen Kings The Stand receive a proper film adaptation. That horrid mini series from a few years back does not count.
