This is the major misunderstanding. Everyone, you and me, could potentially become a mass murdering criminal. There are many many cases, a post office employee, a PhD student in Physic... What matter is only whether we have the spells of this bad fortune.

I wasn't going to chime in on this, but what the hell.

Quote:
The Swiss have easy access to guns and are taught at an early age how to use them, yet we don't see any rampages occurring there.

One of the main reasons you see so little gun violence in Switzerland is because they have so little crime to start. The Swiss are one of the wealthiest per capital countries in Europe. It's a statistical fact that the wealthier a nation is, the less crime they have. And the US is not an anomaly. Crime is way down here. Somehow that never gets reported. The Swiss also live in a isolated, highly educated society with low unemployment, poverty and other negative social factors that contribute to crime in the US.

If the US wants to put a dent in it's murder rate (which is actually at it's lowest level since the 1960, even though gun ownership is up) then we need to start addressing the social factors that lead to crime. I'd suggest starting with drugs poverty and racism and sexism.

Quote:
Guns are a problem. you wont see anyone murdering that many people with a baseball bat.

Guess what the most common weapon used for violent crime is. Gun? Knife ? Horseshoe? Wrong! HANDS. Are we going to outlaw appendages? Yes, a gun makes it easier to kill people. No crap. Thats what they are designed to do. But it's not the only device used to commit murder. People are murdered with automobiles all the time. And I'm don't just mean one person at a time either. Lets ban all devices used in mass killings. Mass killers frequently use knives and machetes. Lets ban them. People ARE murdered with baseball bats, chainsaws, crowbars, Tylenol, dogs, hands and feet etc. BAN THEM ALL! Last year my city was rocked by a series of murders that left two entire family's dead. The two low life piece of sh*t thugs that committed these mass killings did not use a gun. They killed these two family's with duct tape, plastic bags a knife a hammer and fire. Just because a device makes it easier to commit a crime does not mean law abiding citizens should be prevented from owning it for legitimate purposes.

If you think mass murders only happen in the US, you need a history lesson. Which is why I included links! Many of these countries have total bans on firearms ownership. Not just handguns. Not just "assault weapons." And some of these mass murders did not involve guns!

Erfurt massacre
Zug massacre
Osaka school massacre
Sanaa massacre
Port Arthur massacre
Dunblane massacre
École Polytechnique massacre
Hungerford massacre
Hoddle Street massacre
Milperra massacre
Woo Bum-kon
Jonestown
Tsuyama massacre

Thats my two cents.

 I think this is a rather stupid argument. Auto, kitchen knifes, baseball bats... all have their designed purpose and what is the purpose of guns? Collection? Hunting? With hollow point bullets?

I have a handgun myself. It is a collectible item I must admit. But what if it is spayed, a nonfunctional display just for the collection purpose. Would I still like it the way it is? Hell no! I like it also because of the power that the gun embeds.

Let's face it. We love power. Just look at any profile of those mass killing murders. Almost certainly that one way or the other they were a failure in their social life. To prove that they are capable of (have the gut) doing something big, they committed those crimes.

The point is that a gun is a tool. Nothing more. Numerous things can be used to kill people in numbers great and small. People that want to ban firearms in an effort to reduce violence are intellectually lazy. They see reports of violence committed with firearms and they think well "lets ban firearms. If they don't have guns they can't kill people." What they fail to take into consideration is that a person that wants to kill, for whatever reason they want to kill, well find a way to kill regardless any limitations society puts on them. If we ban guns they will either get one illegally or use another method all together. All of the mass murders that I linked to had one common thread. And it wasn't the weapons used or the nations in which they occurred in. That thread was that each of those crimes was committed by a seriously fuc*#ed up individual. So to reduce murders get rid of the fuc*#ed people. Better yet, lets stop producing them all together. These killers are part product of their genes and part product of the society they were raised in. We may not be able to fix the gene pool but we sure as hell can fix the society.

The point is that a gun is a tool for killing effectively. Nothing more.

Thank you. That is the point.

I purchased my gun for target shooting. I didn't buy it with the intentions of killing anyone or anything. It stays locked up when I am not out target practicing.

You can do target shooting with an air gun.

I'm sure you bought your gun not for the intention of killing, at least till now. But what if you are with extreme rage?

I can tell what that dude was thinking.

At 23, most likely he was eager to find a girl friend. Being an Asian with small body build, he lacked the physical attraction as well as wealthy parents to get one. That was what all the hatred built up. That was what guns and weapons gave him--power--confidence. And finally the power had him.

Well when I get engulfed in extreme rage I use a thing called self control. Most sane people have the ability to stop their selves and rationally figure a way to handle extreme situations without picking up a gun and murdering everyone around them.

If you feel like you need a gun to take care of a situation I'd encourage you to seek some help.

As for target practice with an air gun, I don't think so. Sure Airsoft is fun to play around with but they are far from accurate with any kind of repetition.

Take it as an advice. Temptation is what it is called in the bible. I have been through it. You think you are rational and you have total control of yourself. You don’t understand. What is tempting you is also you yourself. Once the other part of you takeover, you won't notice it becasue after all it alwasy just you.

You think Cho is out of his mind? He planned everything, chained up the front door, mailed the video… There was the reasoning in his mind. Reasoning can overcome desires; on the other hand, desires can also enslave reasoning and in such case reasoning will work for desires.

At any range over about say 10 feet you will have better luck target shooting with a sling shot then with an airsoft pistol. There is a reason that there are no competitive airsoft target shooting matches.

If extreme rage was capable or bringing PK to violence, I would be dead by now.

Where have they been hiding all the Small Asian People Making Factories. I ask because considering that about 60% of the worlds population is Asian, and that most of them would be considerd poor and small framed, following your logic no one would breed with them. So if these Asians aren't popping out of some womans hooch, just where they hell are they all coming from.

Side Note: I typically would not refer to a womans reproductive organs as hooch, however considering that the above quote set the bar of offensiveness so high, I figured no one would care.

Cho was out of his mind. He was insane. Insane people are capable of reason. Being insane does not mean that you are incapable of planning. It means you have one or more mental disorders. In Cho's case he was most likely a High Functioning Schizophrenic. People with this disorder are very capable of planning out crimes. Hitler, Ted Kaczynski, George Bush (HA HA) have all committed great crimes requiring elaborate planning. Wrapping chains around doors and mailing off a video does not make someone sane. When your done reading the articles I linked to yesterday, go to your library and check out a copy of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Next time some wack job does something clearly crazy you'll be able to better identify there behavior for the disorder that underlies it.

Air gun competitions are even in the Olympic games. I just like people talking bull. And even if you must do target practice with real guns, guns and ammunitions can be kept in those fire ranges which is the case in other countries. You don’t bring your guns home.

As of Cho’s psychology it was only my speculation based on the info by media, stalking female students, hatred over rich students, and he did shoot the girl and her (boy) friend first. I am not a psychologist but I do know a lot human behaviors. I was once probably the best Quake 2 player in the world and I did it again in UT2004. Behind the eye-hand-reflex, it is the ability to understand your opponent’s mind that count.

I’m not here to take away your guns so you can save your arguments to yourself. I’m here to share a bit of my experiences, experiences that I have learned from God directly. Take the Matrix II as an example. How Mav explained to Neo about desires. He wrote some code, a chocolate cake to a beautiful woman. Desire soon overrode reasoning…

My last comment to this topic, peace out.

Now we're seeing all kinds of incidents popping up in the media, not to mention a push by some of our beltway politicians for a complete ban on handguns.

It is interesting to watch the behavior of the MSM, especially in the case of the killer at the Appalachian School of Law in January 2002. Three persons got killed before two ARMED students managed to subdue the aggressor and PREVENTED WORSE.

Yet the MSM won't remind us of that.

So the solution is to arm everyone then?

You know what, it would almost certainly stop the loan-gun-nut from doing their thing as they would be taken down quickly.

I'd wager good money that gun crime/murder/etc as a whole would go up though.
