When designing the 6950 PCS++ PowerColor's R&D had a couple of aims. The first was that they would only use cores which could be fully "unlocked" to the 6970 shader count. Then these GPUs had to be hand tested and only 101% stability was acceptable. When they then combined the above requirements with a custom PCB and high performance dual slot cooler the end result is an exceptional version of the 6950.
In each of our tests it significantly increased on the performance of a standard model and on many occasions was within a single frame per second of the more expensive 6970. This was of course all done with lower temperatures and noise levels. It was also great to see that there was some overclocking potential in the card and it ran at the top level of the clocks available to us without issue.
