This is what happened in a gun restricted place. A policeman with a criminal mind had to find a way to obtain guns and bullets before he could continue his robberies.

Lightsout- While I have owned several firearms in the past, and have also had a concealed carry permit, due mostly to a lack of funds recently I do not currently own a firearm. I will though be purchasing multiple firearms, and soon. I will also be renewing my concealed carry license. Do I think that all adults should carry a firearm? Yes, and no. Certain people even if trained in shoot don't shoot scenarios would never draw a firearm and kill someone. Even if their life depended on it they would just not be able to do it. I don't think any less of these people however I do believe that every individual in this society is primarily responsible for their own defense. If you are not comfortable carrying a firearm then you should purchase and train to use one of the numerous less then lethal alternatives. While it may not be as effective, it is at least something. For everyone else, they should carry a handgun. And at home, they should have a shotgun a carbine and a long gun. It would be safe to say that my political beliefs fall somewhere close to Tribal Anarchy and as such I do not have much faith in the concept of law enforcement and I would personally like to see the entire US criminal justice system abolished.

It must be nice in that brilliant moment of self rightousness to write that down and in that sentence screwover the most vulnarable sections in society in favor of the almighty gun.

It is nice that weak and the poor people or unable to carry guns just get completely left out and yeah "who cares" something you would expect Eric Cartman to say on southpark ....

Brazil has such a "policy" where they just wipe out the poor people in bigger cities.

Actually, guns make the situation much BETTER for physically weak people.

And while guns are expensive, this is likely because it's so heavily restricted and there
isn't a large civilian demand for them.

Really, when you make guns illegal you're NOT removing them from the following three:
- Government
- Privately wealthy groups & individuals--the ones with a lot of influence in government.
- Career criminals

You end up making most of the population vulnerable, just like those poor people in Brazil.

Agreed SS.

Going back to my Switzerland example, guns are deeply rooted within the Swiss culture, but the gun crime rate is so low that statistics are not even kept. Even though guns are deeply rooted within our own culture too, what separates them from us is that there is a greater emphasis on COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY regarding their possession.

Guns themselves aren't the problem. The problem, at least here in the US, is that guns have been romanticized to the point where they have become the preferred method of anger management and conflict resolution.

Yeah and for one killer like Cho how many hundreds of law-abiding citizens do you NOT hear about whose life was saved because they were armed?

What happened in VT was tragic, but taking a cheap swipe and scapegoating firearms won't solve the underlying problems.

And incidentally, I heard not one gun was involved in the 9/11 attacks.

I can see wheelchair mounted M16 next to sherman tanks and all the people which are mentally challenged and or muscle disease and a whole lot of other medicle basket cases cheer in sheer excitement of having guns for them to all to solve the "problem" .

But it is obvious that the people with any handicap get left out so the there is no balance in what you are proposing. You see carrying a gun isnt enough you have to practise and such .....

And for everytime someone saved his own life with a gun there prolly are more then a few drive by related child killings to offset this ....

Why you think would America be opposed to Iran's nuclear program since it basicly supports your mind set as long as everybody has them "there is no danger" .....

It is so damn both funny and sad how some people suggested that we should live our life like wild animals and insects; those do arm and defend themselves with razor sharp teeth, claws or venoms.

Pieter, my shoulder-fired RPG can take out your Sherman tank with one well-placed shot. Checkmate. :)

Not at all but guns dont work. Nor does getting rid of the justice system and hand out guns.

It's like hearing drunks say they dont have a drinking problem , it is that repetitive......

After more than 1200 years of continuous warfare, the nations of Europe FINALLY forged a lasting peace with one another. Was it guns that caused all these wars over the centuries, or was it the culture of violence that was so prevalent throughout Europe up until the great die-offs that we call World Wars 1 and 2? Our European members seem to forget that aspect of their own culture when they critique ours in America.

Don't get me wrong, I DO think that there is wisdom in their perspective toward a collective desire for disarmament. It's just that it won't apply here in America. We are much too diverse a nation to bring everybody to the same page at the same time. This is why mutual deterrence works the best here.

I can tell you one thing though. If everybody was carrying a firearm, people would be much more polite to one another.
