Trying to get myself into better shape (notice I didn't say back into shape... I'm a computer geek. Healthy and Computer Geek are hardly two things you see in the same sentence). So I purchased myself a new bike. My old bike crapped out after a long trip in VA Beach. I'd say I put a good 20-25 miles on it that trip and that's all she took. Kind of expected it after letting the bike sit for 2 years outside. Bearings rusted out and the gears would grind like no tomorrow. So instead of spending the $50 to get that bike fixed I spent $595.95 on a new bike. Seemed like the logical thing to do at the time.

Got a Motobecane Fantom 29er in Matte Black. Have only taken it out for a couple of miles so far but have been really pleased with how smooth the 29ers ride. Those big wheels just roll over anything in their path and less of it gets sent to your wrists/backside. Upgrading from the standard V-Brakes seen on most bikes and going to disc brakes sure makes a massive difference especially in wet conditions. Also having a bike that is sized for the rider makes an even larger difference. My old bike was a off the shelf Schwinn (Pacific Cycles) that had most everything I needed but was made to fit the average person around 5'8" and I'm 6'1" so the frame was a little small for me.

Well if it was completly rusted out it would have costed a lot more then just $50 :) .

Btw in holland we have tires with reflecting strips on the side :) so whenever you want some funky tires look for those :)

29"ers are really nice. There are a lot of good mountain bike trails around Williamsberg I know if you want to meet up some time PK. I'd really like one of these: http://fisherbikes.com/bike/model/superfly but they are too expensive by far. :) I've got a Trek 4500 for my mountain bike.

I actually did the VB MS-150 ride this year - http://www.bikems.org/ - really need a road bike to do it, you'd get killed on a mountain bike. Did 75 miles at around 16.7mph av on day 1 and 19.1mph av on day 2.
