Hell... I remember buying my first windows based PC, had a Cyrix processor... WOO!! That thing pissed me off. Then IBM tried to tell me that putting a 3DFX Doodoo 2 would over clock the CPU and void my warrantee. What crock of crap! I took that box back within a week, got me that fancy "Three D Now" enabled K6-2... Played Quake 2 like a mofo! Action Quake was my favorite. Got me and my bros HOOKED!!!

LOL!! I was that crazy swedish guy (TheOzzyFreak) :) I'm not that crazy anymore though, I've got a girlfriend & 3 kids... And believe it or not, a real JOB!! :)

I'm more interested in smartphones than in PC's nowadays...

It's funny how we tweaked or K6-2's back in those days... Today we can play the real Quake 2 on cellphones with a steady 25-30 fps using opengl renderer...

Here it is played on a Nokia N95 8GB
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lR-2jQrBZw

Who would think this would be possible back then???

I'm sorry, I don't think it's possible yet. I found a version with some strange language (maybe persian?) at ipmart forums but there is apparently no english language version yet...
However if you want to play Quake 2 in the meantime, here are the instructions:

Congrats on your marriage btw :)

Now ... bleh (that would be directed at the world of computers, not at this forum) Cocorice posted something along these lines a little while back - I think to the effect that he didn't know that much about contemporary hardware and didn't really care to (I hope I'm not miscontruing what he meant). If that's what he meant (and even if he didn't) I agree.

I'm probably just getting old (well, in fact, I am getting old) but I wonder if my blehness isn't part of a more general phenomenon. Are young guys still getting the same fun out of tweaking or has something important changed in the tech world (or for that matter has something changed in the "world world")?

I guess I need to resign myself to hanging around in Best Buy saying "You kids! In my day we play'd on Diamond Stealth II's with 40 megapixels a second. And we were happy to have it!"

And, while I'm grumbling, when are we gonna get those 3dnow drivers?

I know the feeling. I got sick of computers and IT in general. I just resigned from my job of 19 years because I no longer loved working in the IT field.

I guess as you get older your passions change. Travel(which I always loved) has become far more important than spending weekends oc'ing my computer or working countless hours in a datacenter.

I fell behind in the new tech as well, Socket AM.. what? I'm having to relearn some things that I used to know without thinking.

While I still have a decent computer, it's no longer the obsession it used to be. Since I now travel to Europe twice a month, I spend more time on my Ipaq 210 PDA than my desktop.

And I thought it was just me. I still enjoy tech but it certainly doesn't hold the same fascination it once did. While I don't see myself every completely ditching the hobby it just doesn't hold the same priority it once did.
