This is the FIRST Intel based computer I've ever purchased but that's because AMD doesn't offer anything for this market that is being used in this market. I purchased this as an all day alternative to a laptop. My laptop is used mainly from the couch and when I travel but it weighed me down on the road. Having the netbook will be a fast lightweight alternative for when I hit the road or need to bring something to work. And when used in conjunction with my Samsung Omnia I can get on the internet with a fully feature computer anywhere.

I'll be sure to post my initial reactions as soon as I get it.

So far the only AMD based netbook used a Turion 64X2 downclocked to 1.2GHz but the thing only got 2.5 hours. The netbook I ordered claims 9.5 hours and in most practice gets about 8 hours. That is a full day of computing. 2.5 hours just wouldn't cut it.

I will post my findings and plan to do an HD video comparison with 1GB vs 2GB and 1.2GHz, 1.66GHz and 1.75GHz (overclocked mode).

I think that sums it up , hardly anything that can get you through the day. Not sure what the reasons are but it does seem that AMD based things either dont have the right battery or battery life :( .

First impressions are still developing but I'm getting some good use out of it today. Currently sitting in a 9 hour class for work and have had the Eee on for quite a few hours but still 5.5 hours of battery left. The keyboard has taken NO effort to get used to, typing feels very natural while finding function keys do take more time because so many are combined with the Fn button on this Netbook. Performance is fine for word processing and surfing in between vendors. Brightness is good and the anti-glare screen is a nice addition over the previous Eee PCs. I couldn't imagine how annoying it would be under these florescent lights without the anti-glare.

The trackpad is what has been taking most of the adjustment for me. It requires a little more push to get it to move and the multi-touch is something new but took no time to start using and using well. Clicking the mouse buttons are the typical hard click that the Eees are known for. A little more force might be needed if you don't modify where you put your fingers. If you click further away from the actual track pad you get a much smoother click instead of a heavy forceful click.

I am still working on my HD video comparison and will try to finish that up tonight. Will also install the 2GB memory module and see how that effects performance.

I'm got the Linux netbook with SSHD.

I have big hands so I find the 92% keyboard a little cramped. The first thing I did with it was to install Ubuntu. The machine is great for short use, I can take notes when I'm working on site, manipulate spreadsheets, etc.

I can't possibly use it as a primary machine, and I don't think it was ever meant to be. I set up an SSH connection back to my desktop and can use that storage space when needed-- it shows up as just another folder. Naturally it also gives me access to any files I need from back home. Pretty much a homebrew version of EEE Storage that Asus advertises.

I like it (have had it for almost six months now) but again it's not a primary machine. I remind people of this who see it and say "That's cool, I want one!"

First part of my video review: Unboxing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_Svndrwj9Y

And as far as the keyboard goes I really like the keyboard on the 1000HE, should have been designed this way the first time. For those who own the 1000XX other than the HE you can order the HE keyboard and it is backwards compatible.
