Hello,

I'm looking for some advice for repair and diagnostic software for hard drives, ranging from SATA to PATA support. I'm not a fan of 'windows run' software and I would prefer some which can boot from a floppy drive, CD/DVD or USB pen.

I'm aware that manufacturers usually have their own repair tools; such as Seagate. However, some don't such as Toshiba.

I'm open to open source or paid solutions; any suggestions welcome from those who has experience using them.

Thanks!

Hiren's BootCD is a swiss army knife of utilities. It's worth looking at-- it has a ton of stuff on it that you can access when you boot from it. Also presents a menu of tools when autorun from Windows.

I think I accidently stumbled across that recently on a torrent site; booted it and lo' it was full of goodies. It was on the site as 'windows pe.iso' but it contains oh so much more.
